Itinerary

This itinerary is designed to showcase Uganda’s most iconic wildlife and primate experiences within eight days while keeping the route practical and minimizing unnecessary backtracking.

Day 1: Kampala or Entebbe – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls

Early morning pickup from Kampala or Entebbe and drive north towards Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Enjoy a guided rhino tracking experience, learning about Uganda’s rhino conservation programme while observing southern white rhinos in their natural environment.

After lunch, continue to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest national park. Enter the park and enjoy wildlife sightings on the way to your lodge.

Day 2: Murchison Falls – Game Drive and Nile Boat Cruise

Wake up early for breakfast and depart for a morning game drive across the northern sector of the park.

Look out for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kob, hartebeest, waterbucks, warthogs and, with luck, lions and leopards.

Return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile towards the base of Murchison Falls, where you can see hippos, crocodiles and numerous waterbirds.

Day 3: Murchison Falls – Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, depart Murchison Falls and drive south towards Kibale Forest National Park.

The journey passes through rural communities, plantations and beautiful countryside.

Have lunch en route before continuing to Kibale.

Arrive in the afternoon, check into your lodge and relax in preparation for the following day’s chimpanzee trek.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking – Bigodi Wetland Experience

After breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for briefing before beginning your chimpanzee trekking experience.

Enter Kibale Forest with experienced guides and trackers to search for habituated chimpanzee communities.

Along the trek, you may also encounter monkeys, forest birds and other wildlife.

After lunch, visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided community and nature walk. The experience provides excellent opportunities for birdwatching and viewing several primate species.

Day 5: Kibale-Queen Elizabeth National Park – Boat Cruise

After breakfast, depart Kibale for Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Drive through the scenic crater-lake region towards the park.

After lunch, enjoy the famous Kazinga Channel boat cruise, one of Uganda’s best wildlife-viewing experiences.

The cruise provides opportunities to see large concentrations of hippos, crocodiles, elephants and buffaloes, as well as numerous waterbirds.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth – Ishasha – Bwindi

Start the day with an early game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Continue towards the Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Continue southwards towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, enjoying spectacular views of southwestern Uganda.

Arrive at your lodge in the evening and prepare for the following day’s gorilla trek.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking – Bwindi

After an early breakfast, proceed to the appropriate gorilla trekking headquarters for registration and briefing.

Begin your mountain gorilla trek through the ancient Bwindi forest.

The trek may take several hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once located, enjoy the permitted viewing period observing their behaviour and taking photographs.

Return to the lodge after the trek for lunch and relaxation.

Optional: Community or Batwa cultural experience in the afternoon, depending on time and energy.

Overnight: Bweza lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 8: Bwindi – Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, begin the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.

Travel through the scenic southwestern countryside with lunch en route.

Continue towards Kampala or Entebbe, arriving in the late afternoon or evening.
